It’s widely known in sports science that milk hydrates better than traditional sports drinks and water because it contains a unique profile of electrolytes and carbohydrates you can’t find anywhere else.
A process called ultrafiltration is used to filter out and remove milk’s protein which allows us to capture the clear part of the milk containing its unique profile of electrolytes, B vitamins, and carbohydrates.
Upcycling means using ingredients that otherwise would go to waste to create new, higher-value products.
Being Upcycled Certified™ means that a product uses an ingredient that otherwise would go to waste, is procured and produced using verifiable supply chains, and has a positive impact on the environment.
Instead of purchasing tons of milk and ultra filtering it to remove its protein and capture its electrolytes, B vitamins, and carbohydrates, we work with dairy companies who are already ultra filtering milk to make products like protein powders and leave behind the clear liquid containing the electrolytes, B vitamins, and carbohydrates we need to make GoodSport®. By rescuing and upcycling this nutrient-rich part of the milk, called ultra-filtered deproteinized milk (or milk permeate), we reduce the environmental impact of its disposal and improve the value of the food system.
