STUDY SUMMARY: Improved Post-Exercise Rehydration with GoodSport
Improved post-exercise rehydration with a milk-permeate-based sports drink, Boro TL et al (2026) International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism DOI: https://doi.org/10.1123/ijsnem.2025-0067
In a peer-reviewed study conducted at the Hydration Science Lab at Arizona State University, researchers evaluated post-exercise hydration by measuring net fluid balance over a four-hour recovery period, including changes in body mass and urine output. Using a randomized crossover design, the study compared GoodSport, a sports drink formulated using milk permeate—a clear liquid component of milk containing naturally occurring electrolytes, carbohydrates, and B vitamins—with water and two leading sports drinks formulated with differing electrolyte profiles.
The results showed that GoodSport supported greater fluid retention at later time points, indicating more sustained hydration over time. The findings suggest that a formulation providing optimal levels of both sodium and potassium, along with additional electrolytes, better supports fluid absorption and retention compared to formulations emphasizing a single dominant electrolyte.
